RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery) uses a flexible endoscope passed through the natural urinary opening — no incision. A Holmium laser fragments the stone into fine dust that passes naturally.
You are given anaesthesia. The scope reaches the kidney. The laser breaks the stone. A temporary stent may be placed. You wake in recovery. Most patients go home the next day.
Day 1: mild discomfort, rest. Day 3: light activity. Day 7: typically back to routine. Week 4: stent removal if placed. Contact the clinic for fever, severe pain, or inability to urinate.
RIRS is suitable for most kidney stones. Very large stones may need PCNL instead. Dr. Aviral will explain which approach fits your case — including when RIRS is not the right choice.
